JM Bogan Co. is a US-based family-owned custom remodelling builder. Serving the Pacific Northwest since 1977, it has built a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship and customer service. With seven employees and numerous specialty contractors, the company manages medium to large residential remodelling projects.

“JM Bogan’s driving force is exceeding expectations; ensuring clients receive the greatest possible value,” explains Susan Franz, Director of Franz Bookkeeping and JM Bogan’s financial management partner since 1999.

Franz Bookkeeping, established in 2006, specialises in the construction industry. “Our motto is ‘trust and confidence through detail and accuracy,’ which aligns perfectly with JM Bogan’s open-book approach,” says Susan.

Experts in time and material billing, Franz Bookkeeping’s value proposition is leveraging cutting-edge financial technology to support clients’ growth. “For anyone who does cost plus or time and material billing, we’re a great resource,” Susan explains. “We help construction companies create a lot of transparency for their clients by ensuring they can see accurate and up to date project information. We’re essentially their outsourced finance department.”

Brandon chose Procore to be JM Bogan’s ideal project management solution, but together JM Bogan and Franz Bookkeeping faced the challenge of integrating Procore with QuickBooks Online.

“The first connector we tried didn’t work and created a lot of errors,” Susan explains.

However she was far more confident about OneCore. “We could see they were developing the product specifically for our market,” she notes. “There was some apprehension, because it was this or nothing.”

Particularly important was OneCore’s ability to handle time punches, a feature that had been problematic with previous solutions. “We wanted time punches taken in Procore to be fed through to QuickBooks Online. That’s something they hadn’t yet developed and worked on for us which we appreciate, as it’s not easy to do,” Susan explains.

Implementing OneCore has resulted in significant improvements for JM Bogan’s efficiency, accuracy and client transparency. It has also provided Franz Bookkeeping with a valuable tool to optimise financial management for other construction clients.

Efficiency and scalability 

The dramatic reduction in manual data entry has enabled JM Bogan to handle a higher volume of work without expanding their administrative team. “They’ve doubled the volume of clients in the last four months,” Susan reports. “The integration frees the mind of the owner/contractor so they can pursue and take on more projects. We can handle the volume without being overwhelmed.”

Transparency for clients

The real-time data flow between Procore and QuickBooks Online means JM Bogan can provide more transparent financial information to clients. “It builds trust and confidence,” Susan explains. “If someone is inside your home tearing it apart, you need a good relationship without mistrust or questions. That relationship is why they’re so good at what they do.”

Accurate data

OneCore has significantly reduced the risk of human error. “It’s not easy to take a lot of different detailed information and enter it. It wears on your mind. You can’t do it for a long time and will make mistakes,” says Susan. “Now we let the system do most of it and verify it. We’re managing the information instead of typing it in.”

Streamlined time tracking 

The ability to transfer time punches from Procore to QuickBooks Online has been a game-changer. “Procore shows the bill rate, and QuickBooks shows cost,” Susan explains. “We show costs to customers on Procore, while profitability is shown to the owner in QuickBooks.”
